Worktrees
Give a card its own git worktree and branch, mark what state the branch is in, review its changes, and let Mooring close the card when the branch merges.
A git worktree is a second working folder for the same repository, on its own branch. Worktrees let Claude work on several cards at once without the changes getting mixed up. In Mooring, a worktree belongs to its project and shows under it in the sidebar.
Create a worktree from a card
- In Up Next, select a card.
- Press
⌘S, or right-click the card and choose Send to New Worktree…. - In Create a new worktree, check the Branch name. Mooring suggests one.
- Choose any marks the branch should start with, under Mark As.
- Click Create, or press Return.
Mooring creates the worktree, links the card to its branch, opens a tab there with your default agent, and selects the worktree in the sidebar.
To make a worktree without a card, right-click the project in the sidebar and choose New Worktree….
Branch and folder names
Mooring creates each worktree in the project's .claude/worktrees/ folder,
the same place Claude Code uses. Its branch starts with worktree-. A
worktree made from a card also carries the card's ticket key, for example
worktree-skv-42-add-search, so the branch and the card stay matched.
Work with a worktree
- Click a worktree in the sidebar to see its tabs. New tabs open there.
- Click the card icon on a worktree's row to open its card. Or right-click the row and choose Open Card or Show Card in Up Next.
- Link more cards by right-clicking the row and choosing Cards on This Worktree…. Attach a card by typing part of its title or ticket key, or remove one with ⊖.
Mark a worktree
A mark says what state a branch is in, such as Ready for merge or Needs rebase.
- Right-click the worktree and choose Mark As….
- Click each mark to add or remove it. The list stays open until you click away or press Esc.
Marks show on the worktree's row and on its cards. A mark stays until you, or Claude, remove it. Change the list of marks in Settings ▸ Worktrees. Tick Auto on a mark to have it selected already when you create a worktree from a card.
Review a branch
- Readiness at a glance. A worktree's row shows a tick when its branch has no conflicts with the base branch, and a warning when it would conflict. This checks git only. It doesn't run tests or builds.
- The Branch section of the file viewer lists the files the branch changes, with lines added and removed. Click a file to see its changes against the base branch. Switch to Commits to see the branch's commits.
Closing out
When a worktree's branch has merged into the default branch, Mooring moves its card to Done and adds a short summary of the work, built from the branch's commits. The change shows in the card's History. Mooring waits until the worktree has no uncommitted changes first.
To turn this off, open Settings ▸ Worktrees and turn off Mark a card done and add a summary when its worktree is merged and closed.
Remove a worktree
- Right-click the worktree and choose Remove Worktree….
- Read the dialog. Mooring warns you clearly when removing it could lose work that hasn't landed.
- Confirm.
Mooring closes the worktree's tabs and removes its folder.
Usage per worktree
While Claude works in a worktree, its row shows a small dial with roughly what Claude is costing per hour. See Claude usage and plan limits.
