Assistant

Talk to Claude about your project's cards, run saved jobs over them, and refine a single card from its own window.

The Assistant is a chat with Claude about your project's cards. Ask it to find duplicates, tighten a card, or say what to work on next. The Assistant can read, rewrite, create, link and delete cards. Every change it makes shows in the card's History as Claude's, and ⌘Z undoes its edits.

The Assistant can also read your project's files to check a card against the code. In a chat it can't edit files or run commands.

The Assistant also plans your commits and looks after pull requests from the Changes tab. See Commits and pull requests.

Open an Assistant chat

Use any of these:

  • Choose Window ▸ Assistant ▸ Chat, or press ⇧⌘B. The same menu lists your saved jobs.
  • Click the ✦ button in the title bar.
  • At the top of the Cards tab, click the Assistant menu and choose Chat. The menu shows once the project has cards.
  • Right-click a card and choose Manage This Ticket….
The Assistant window for the skiver project. Asked whether anything in the backlog overlaps, the Assistant shows two cards as clickable cards: SKV-2, “Rate-limit searches for ‘is it Friday yet’,” and SKV-7, “Search can’t find messages that are only emoji.” It explains that both touch search but are different work, suggests linking rather than merging them, and offers one-click replies: Link them, Leave them, and Compare SKV-1 and SKV-5.

A new chat greets you with I manage this project's cards. and a line saying which cards it is looking at. Type in the box at the bottom and press Return. What you send shows in the chat straight away. To dictate instead, click the microphone in the box, or press ⌥⌘M. See Voice input.

A chat starts a Claude conversation, which uses tokens. So before it starts, Mooring asks Open the Assistant? and shows which cards the chat will cover. Click Open to start. Select Don't ask again to skip the question next time. To bring it back, turn on Ask before opening the Assistant in Settings ▸ Assistant.

Clear or close a chat

The top of an Assistant window has three controls:

  • Scope shows which cards the chat covers.
  • Clear Session forgets the conversation and starts a fresh one over the same cards, in the same window.
  • Close Session ends the conversation and closes the window. Mooring asks first if there's a reply on screen.

Closing the window on its own only pauses the chat. Open it again and the conversation carries on, until you quit Mooring.

Run a saved job

The Assistant menu at the top of the Cards tab lists Chat and your saved jobs. Mooring ships four: Find duplicates, Refine requirements, Split large cards and Re-prioritise.

  1. Filter the Cards tab to the cards you want, for example Ready.
  2. Click the Assistant menu and choose a job.

The job opens in its own window and works on the cards the Cards tab was showing. Choose the same job again to return to that window.

The Assistant on a card

The right side of each card's window has two tabs, Details and Assistant. Press ⌘1 for Details and ⌘2 for the Assistant. Mooring remembers the one you used last.

In the Assistant tab, type a question about the card, or click a suggestion that fits it, such as Help refine this card, Check if a duplicate, Still relevant? or Draft acceptance criteria. Nothing runs until you ask. To dictate a question, click the microphone in the box, or press ⌥⌘M.

The chat opens where you left it. The eraser button at the top of the tab, Clear chat, forgets the conversation and leaves the card and its comments as they are. Closing the card's window ends the conversation, but your next question on that card carries it on.

Help refine this card reads the card's title, description, acceptance criteria and recent comments. It asks up to three short questions if something important is unclear. Then it proposes a better title, description and acceptance criteria, one at a time.

SKV-3's description is one line.

When the Assistant proposes a change, you see the old text beside the new:

  • Apply makes the change. It shows in the card's History, and ⌘Z undoes it.
  • Edit opens the new text in the card's editor, so you can change it first.
  • Discard throws the proposal away.
A Mooring card window for SKV-3, “Retry the lunch-order webhook”. In the Assistant pane on the right, the Assistant has been asked to help refine the card and proposes a new description: the current one-line description is shown greyed out, marked with a minus, above a fuller rewrite, marked with a plus, that says what fails and what done looks like. Apply, Edit and Discard buttons sit under the proposal; nothing changes until one is chosen.

If you have an unsaved edit in that field, the Assistant leaves it alone and says why.

Choose the model and effort

The control beside Send changes the model and effort for the current conversation. For new conversations, open Settings ▸ Assistant:

  • Model applies to every Assistant conversation, unless a saved job picks its own.
  • Effort applies to chats and to the Assistant tab on a card. Each saved job sets its own effort.
  • Personality sets how the Assistant talks. It answers in plain language at first. Reply ipl to ask it to say its last answer more plainly.
  • Suggestions lists the saved jobs. Add, edit, turn off or reset any job.

What the Assistant costs shows as its own line in the Claude Usage window. See Claude usage and plan limits.
