Claude Code agents

How Claude Code runs inside Mooring, the built-in tools that let Claude work with Mooring itself, and how to restart a session.

Claude Code runs in a Mooring tab as a real terminal session. The session keeps running in the background, so Claude carries on working while Mooring is closed.

Start a Claude tab

  1. Select a project, or one of its worktrees, in the sidebar.
  2. Click an agent button in the project strip, such as Claude. If you have more setups than fit, the rest are under ⋯.

Claude starts in that project's folder, with the same PATH you get in Terminal. ⇧⌘T starts your default agent. Change the setups in Settings ▸ AI Agents. See Agents.

Mooring's tools for Claude

Mooring has a built-in MCP server, so Claude in a tab can see and work with Mooring itself. There's nothing to install or run. The tools are:

  • Up Next: list, read, create and update cards by ticket key, such as SKV-42. Claude can also comment, link cards, set versions and marks, and archive or restore a card.
  • Sessions: list the project's tabs, focus or rename one, send text into another tab, restart or close a session, or close every session.
  • Git and worktrees: read git status, list worktrees, remove a worktree, and send a note to a new worktree with an agent working in it.
  • Screen: list displays and windows, and capture the screen or a window, so Claude can see the app you're building.

Every change Claude makes to a card shows in that card's History as Claude's. Changes to Up Next can be undone with ⌘Z.

Choose what Claude may do

Open Settings ▸ MCP:

  • Let agents control Mooring turns the tools on or off. It is on at first. Reading Up Next, sessions and git status needs only this.
  • Allow screen capture is off at first. Turning it on asks macOS for Screen Recording permission for Mooring, once.
  • Allow agents to make changes (writes) is off at first. Claude needs it to create or change cards, or to send text to, rename or focus a tab.
  • Allow creating worktrees & spawning agents is off at first. It also needs writes on. Claude needs it to restart or close sessions, remove a worktree, or start a new worktree.

If a tool is switched off, Claude gets a message that names the setting to change.

Each agent setup in Settings ▸ AI Agents also has a Mooring MCP tools switch, on at first.

Restart a session

To restart a Claude session that has stopped responding:

  1. Right-click the tab.
  2. Choose Restart Session.

Claude stops and resumes the same conversation in the same tab, connected to Mooring's tools again.

Know when Claude finishes

Mooring passes Claude Code hooks to every Claude tab it starts, so it knows when Claude finishes a turn or is waiting for you. Nothing is written into your project. The bell in the project strip decides whether that project's tabs light up and send a notification. See Status badges.

Read the conversation

Press ⌥⌘Y to open the selected tab's conversation, formatted, in a window beside the terminal. See Conversation window.
