Conversation window

Read the selected tab's Claude conversation, formatted, in a small window beside the terminal.

Claude writes a lot into the terminal. The Conversation window shows the same conversation formatted, with headings, lists and code, in a small window you can keep beside it.

Open the Conversation window

Use any of these:

  • Choose Window ▸ Conversation, or press ⌥⌘Y.
  • Right-click a Claude tab and choose Show Conversation in a Window.
  • Click the Claude version at the bottom of the main window.
  • In the Sessions window, click the pop-out button in the header.

The first time, the window opens at the top right of your screen. After that, it opens where you left it.

It follows the selected tab

The window shows the conversation in whichever tab is selected in the main window, and changes when you switch tabs. A tab with no Claude conversation says so.

At the end of the conversation, the window shows what Claude is doing: Thinking, Responding, Waiting for you in the terminal when Claude asks a permission, or Done when it has finished.

Follow

With Follow on, as it is at first, the window keeps Claude's newest words in view as Claude writes. Scroll up to read back and the window stays where you are. Scroll to the bottom, or click Follow, to pick up again.

Change the text size

With the Conversation window in front:

  • Press ⌘= to make the text bigger, or ⌘− to make it smaller.
  • Press ⌘0 to return to the usual size.
  • Or click Smaller Text and Bigger Text in the window's header.

Mooring remembers the size, and the Sessions window uses the same size. With the main window in front, the same keys change the terminal's text size instead.

Formatted or Markdown

Use Formatted and Markdown at the top of the window to switch between the formatted conversation and its plain text. The Sessions window uses the same choice.
