FAQ
Agentic IDEs, ADEs and Mooring
Answers to what people ask about agentic development environments, running several Claude Code sessions at once, and what Mooring does about each.
Agentic IDEs and ADEs
What is an ADE?
An ADE, or agentic development environment, is where you run AI coding agents and steer the work. In an IDE, you write the code and AI helps. In an ADE, agents do the work, and you direct and review it. Mooring is an ADE for Claude Code on the Mac.
What is the difference between an agentic IDE and an ADE?
An agentic IDE is a code editor with an AI agent added, so the editor stays at the centre and you still do much of the typing. An agentic development environment puts the agents at the centre. You hand out tasks, watch several agents work at once and review what each one did. Mooring is built that way, around Claude Code sessions rather than an editor.
Is Mooring an agentic IDE?
Looking for an agentic IDE? Mooring is an ADE: agents do the work, you direct and review. It runs Claude Code in real terminal tabs and keeps your tasks, branches, usage and plan limits beside each tab. Think of it as an agentic IDE for the Mac, centred on Claude Code rather than an editor, and keep using the editor you like alongside it.
Is Mooring a Claude IDE?
Mooring is not made by Anthropic. Anthropic makes Claude Code, which runs in a terminal, in editors such as VS Code and JetBrains, and in its own desktop and web apps. Mooring is a free Mac app built around Claude Code in the terminal, for running several sessions at once. It is an ADE rather than an IDE: agents do the work, and you direct and review.
What is the best agentic IDE for Claude Code?
It depends on how you work. If you mostly write code yourself with AI help, an editor with an agent built in suits you better. If you run Claude Code on several tasks at once and want to keep each one moving, Mooring is built for exactly that, which makes it a strong pick for the best agentic development environment for Claude Code. It is free, so it is easy to try.
Is an agent development environment the same as an ADE?
Usually, yes. Agent development environment and agentic development environment both name a tool where AI agents do the development work and you steer it. The phrase is sometimes used for tools that help build AI agents, which Mooring is not. Mooring is an ADE for Claude Code.
Agentic orchestration
What is agentic orchestration?
Agentic orchestration, or multi-agent orchestration, means running several AI agents at once and coordinating the work: which agent works on what, on which branch, and what happens when each one finishes. In Mooring, you do the orchestrating. Each task can get its own Claude Code session and git worktree, and Mooring shows which session is working, which is waiting for you and how much of your plan each branch is using.
Is Mooring an AI agent orchestrator?
Yes, for Claude Code. Mooring is a Claude Code orchestrator that runs many sessions side by side, each in its own tab and, if you like, its own worktree. You choose what each agent works on, and Mooring keeps the whole set in view. Claude can also use the MCP server built into Mooring to list and restart sessions, read git status and update tasks, so one session can help run the others.
Running Claude Code in Mooring
Can I run multiple Claude Code sessions at once?
Yes. Open as many Claude Code tabs as you like, in one project or across its worktrees, and Mooring tracks each one on its own. A dot on the tab and a notification tell you when a session is waiting for you, so you can run parallel Claude Code sessions without watching each one.
How does Mooring handle Claude Code worktrees?
Send a task to a new worktree and Mooring creates it in the project’s .claude/worktrees folder, the same place Claude Code uses. It names the branch after the task, opens Claude there and shows the worktree under its project. Before you merge, branch review shows what the worktree adds, file by file and commit by commit.
Does Claude Code keep running when I quit Mooring?
Yes. Mooring is built to keep Claude Code running. Every tab is a real terminal kept running by tmux, so your sessions carry on when you quit Mooring or put your Mac to sleep. Restarting your Mac ends the sessions, but your tabs reopen in the same place and earlier conversations are ready to resume.
Is Mooring a Claude Code session manager?
Yes. Mooring works as a Claude Code session manager. The sidebar shows each session with what you last asked, the Sessions window lists every Claude session Mooring has seen, and you can restart a stuck session in place without losing the conversation.
What happens when I reach my Claude plan limit?
Mooring sees the limit coming and offers to wind each session down. Each one finishes the step it is on, writes a note about where it got to and stops. When your limit resets, Mooring restarts every paused session and gives Claude back its note, so the work carries on from where it was.
Can I see how much of my Claude plan each session uses?
Yes. A small gauge on each branch shows its usage as it happens, and the Claude Usage window adds it up by project and by branch over a day, a week or a month, next to how much of your plan is left.
Is Mooring a Claude Code GUI?
In a way. Mooring is a Claude Code Mac app with a real terminal in every tab, so Claude Code looks and works just as it does now. Around the terminal it adds the parts a GUI is good at: projects and worktrees in a sidebar, the Up Next list for your tasks, usage gauges and a nicely formatted Conversation window.
Can I run multiple AI coding agents, not just Claude Code?
Mooring is built around Claude Code. You can also set up any other command line agent as a custom command, and Mooring runs it in a tab the same way, so parallel coding agents can sit side by side. Those tabs go without the extras Mooring adds for Claude, such as knowing when it is waiting for you.
Getting Mooring
Is Mooring free?
Yes. Mooring is free to download and use. A Pro version is on the way.
What do I need to run Mooring?
A Mac with Apple silicon running macOS 26 or later, and Claude Code. Mooring sets itself up in four short steps, with Coxsy, its guide, explaining each one.
