Mooring vs Claude Code Desktop
Claude Code in a terminal or a chat window, on the Mac
Anthropic’s Claude desktop app has a Code tab, often called Claude Code Desktop. It runs Claude Code behind a chat window, so you can work without a terminal.
Mooring takes the other road. It is a free Mac app that keeps Claude Code in real terminal tabs, several at once, and adds what a terminal lacks: projects and worktrees in a sidebar, the Cards tab for your tasks, and your usage and plan limits in view. Mooring is not made by Anthropic.

- You like Claude Code in the terminal and want to keep it there.

- You use Windows or Linux, or want sessions that keep running on Anthropic’s cloud with your laptop closed.
- You want everything from Anthropic, in one app with Claude chat.
Using both
Claude Code Desktop shares settings and CLAUDE.md files with the command line, and Mooring runs the command line. So the two read the same project instructions, and you can use each for what it does best.
